Cinco de Mayo Celebration to unveil Revitalized Plaza
Join local residents and government officials as they unveil revitalized Algonquin Parkway Plaza during the Cinco de Mayo Celebration! Festivities include Welcome ceremony, traditional folk and modern Latino dances, arts and crafts, games and a children's reenactment of the epic battle of May 5, 1862. On that day, 4,000 Mexican civilians defeated a combined French and Mexican Army. Attendees will enjoy food and beverages provided by local vendors.
The event, open to community members of all ages, marks the culmination of a two-year project to improve roadways, parking and landscaping at the apartment community near the Police Neighborhood Resource Center. The project also created an outdoor social area with walking paths and a decorative fountain, modeled on the central plazas common in Mexico and Spain, where area residents can gather with friends and neighbors.
